AWG – American Wire Gauge

Stranded wires are specified with three numbers, the overall AWG size, the number of strands, and the AWG size of each strand. For example: a 22 AWG 7/30 stranded wire is a size 22 AWG wire made from seven strands of 30 AWG wire.

Please remember that the larger the AWG size number…the smaller the wire. For example: a size 28 wire is smaller than a size 14 wire.

You can always use a larger size drill bit if you want the wire to fit “loose” in the hole. The chart above is the smallest size drill, for that size wire.

All Beadalon<®> 49 strand, 19 strand and 7 strand beading wires will fit through 1/16”(the most popular size) or 1/20” (a close second) diameter holes.
